Programs and Activities
Up one level- Kindergarten Playgroups
- An introduction to Spanish Immersion kindergarten for incoming kindergarteners. One week of daily interaction with a group of up to 20 students, for about 1 ½ hours.
- Class List Picnic
- Families gather for dinner and to view the class lists. Kids and parents get reaquainted.
- Fiesta
- An annual campus wide celebration to display food, entertainment, crafts & skills typical in various Spanish speaking countries.
- Día de Los Muertos
- A celebration of Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a traditional Aztec ritual practiced in Mexico and parts of the United States meant to honor the dead.
- Art Fair/Science Fair
- An annual daylong exhibition and activities. Years alternate with Art OR Science being the focus.
- Progressive Dinner
- An annual evening event for parents ONLY to get together and socialize.
- Círculo de Lectura
- A program that facilitates the distribution of supplemental, leveled reading books for students in primary grades.
- Garden Program
- Curriculum based, parent-organized student garden program keeps gardens looking beautiful!
- Recycling Program (RISE)
- Chávez was one of the first schools to pilot and launch the RISE program. Because of the reduction of waste, the school district was able to save over $30,000 a year in trash hauling fees.
- Migrant Center Welcome Dinner
- César Chávez, Marguerite Montgomery and Emerson Schools join together for the annual welcome back potluck dinner and celebration at Campo del Sol migrant camp in Davis.
- Art Program
- Parent and local artist Ruth Santer has developed an extensive grade level based art program. Program will return in the 2009-2010 school year.
- Book Fair
- A biannual event that sells books to students from Scholastic to raise funds for the library program. It is the primary source of funds for new books for our school library. Held in November and March during conference week.
