Parents who are interested in serving on the School Site Council are invited to submit a paragraph to the school office by Friday, September 5th.  Include in this paragraph reason(s) for running and pertinent background experience working with budgets, curriculum and/or schools.  This statement will be incorporated in a ballot statement for the election of two parent representatives at Back to School Night on Wednesday September 10th.  One of the two open positions will be for a full two-year term; the other is as an alternate member for one year.

The School Site Council is a part of public school governance which oversees the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement and the related budgets.  Originally, site councils were connected only to the School Improvement Program at each school site.  Over the years, the legislature and school districts have increasingly looked to the site councils to give input on many school and district policies, as well as to oversee and make decisions on various school programs and budgets.  The Single School Plan for Student Achievement now incorporates programs and budgets under a single plan and budget aimed at raising student achievement.  In Davis, the School Site Council at each school is routinely consulted prior to adoption of new district policies, and members from the councils sit on various district-level committees.  The meetings are held monthly at each school site.

Members of the School Site Council at Harper include staff, teacher, parent and student representatives.  This year, the first council meeting is set for Thursday, September 18th from 7:30 to 9:00am.  Monthly meetings thereafter currently are scheduled at the same morning time on the third Thursday of each month through June.
