DAVIS HISTORY RESEARCH GROUP
WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE DAVIS (CA) HISTORY RESEARCH GROUP (DHRG).
This goal is pursued in several ways. Foremost, the Group maintains this free-to-the-public website that strives to provide an increasingly comprehensive bibliography of Davis history publications and related sources and resources.
This bibliographic goal poses a task that can be thought of as an edited book or anthology. Such a book has an editor, but the editor does not write the book. Instead, the chapters are the contributions of various authors.
Applying that analogy, each of the bibliographic documents in the folders to the left is a chapter in an ever-expanding multi-authored book. In this case, as the DHRG Coordinator, I am the metaphorical editor.
On the page labeled 0.3, to the left, I explain how to construct a bibliographic chapter.
AND, I invite you to construct such a chapter on a Davis topic of interest to you!

DHRG Coordinator
RESEARCH NOTE: Enterprise Online Archives/Indexes Incomplete. Report by John Lofland
Several Davis history-oriented researchers have mentioned to me that the Davis Enterprise online archives/indexes at its web site and also at Newsbank do not include all news items published in the paper. Moreover, there is no warning about this at either site. This story reports a test archive/index search I performed that provides a clear example of this "short-fall." In addition, when asked about the short-fall, the Enterprise editor confirmed that the archive/index is incomplete.
1939 Davis Promotional Flyer Discovered, report by John Lofland
At a Sacramento "postcard and paper" show recently, I discovered a 1939 flyer apparently published by the Davis Chamber of Commerce extolling Davis as "the ideal place in which to make a home and raise a family."
